Types of Braces

The Damon System combines the use of high-tech low-force wires with brackets that have a sliding door to engage the wire. This system enables us to move teeth with lower forces than traditional orthodontics. Light forces are more biologically compatible allowing quicker, healthier tooth movement. The benefits are amazing!

Invisalign is a new system of straightening teeth without the use of conventional braces. A series of clear plastic aligners are utilized to create tooth movement. Moving teeth with removable aligners is not new. However, the computer program, which can generate a series of aligners with small changes is the new part. Invisalign is recommended for orthodontic situations with mild to moderate spacing or crowding. They are virtually undetectable, easy to use and comfortable to wear.

Orthodontics for Children

Many factors effect the development of the mouth and the position of the teeth: how the tongue is used to swallow, where the tongue is positioned when chewing is not occuring, how the individual breaths (nose vs. mouth), whether the lips are kept together or not, the strength of the individual's bite, sucking habits, early loss of teeth, genetics, etc.

Some of the problems resulting from these factors can be addressed early, requiring minimal intervention. For this reason, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends your child receive their first orthodontic exam by age 7. For many individuals, early treatment (treatment when baby teeth are still in the mouth) is not needed. However, early treatment in the right situation can help prevent more severe problems from developing later.
